The NEA Gallery Shop at 28C Carrier Street is now open! The evening before Tony Levy was busy installing bespoke seats outside NEA - there was also a chance for a 'Sneak Peak' through the window.
Handover time on the first day saw regular Friday morning rostered volunteer artisans, Elaine Murphy (All Things Paper') and Lise Darcy ('Darcy Felt') preparing for handover. and Jarita working in the office. Not long after Cathy Pianta arrived to chat to Simon Ruppert from the Ensign, then, with Annie Longmuir, take over for the afternoon.
On Saturday, De Sales Turner and Sally Wallace were busy talking to people who dropped in about NEA, while John Holschier was installing furniture in the garden area.
It was wonderful to chat to them all and to once again enjoy viewing the creations of returning and new artisans from North East Victoria.
NEA is open at 28C Carrier Street from 10 - 4 Monday to Friday and 10 - 2 Saturdays. The Red Road Cafe will be opening in the very near future.
As NEA approaches its new opening on November 6th we have three important requests to make -
1) Anyone with work for the shop still to be delivered, please do so this week.
2) If you believe you have any belongings which may have been taken from Bridge Street to the NEA storage container, please let us know through the NEA email address email@example.com . We will then make a time for you to retrieve those items. The storage container will be emptied by the end of November so please act quickly. Unclaimed items will be sold or donated to charity. We are sure you appreciate that we can't maintain the rent on the container longer than necessary.
3) This Saturday, 31st October, there will be a garden Working Bee at the Carrier Street premises 10. 00 am - 2 pm. We are looking for people willing to pot up plants, donate plants, paint chairs and tables and generally help us create the warm, welcoming and creative outdoor space we envisage. BYO brushes, paints (if you are willing to share), gloves, sunscreen etc. Social distancing and Covid safe practices will apply. Let us know you're coming through firstname.lastname@example.org or turn up and take your chances. Your support will be welcomed.

So much has been happening with NEA since our last newsletter.
President, Tim Bowtell, retired from the position to accommodate his growing workload. We have appreciated and are grateful to Tim for all his hard work and for how he has represented NEA across so many communities. I am excited about the opportunity to take up some of the important work that we are doing at NEA as Acting President.
We have officially moved to our new premises at 28 B & C Carrier Street, Benalla. In this space, we’ll occupy two buildings and a huge back yard area. This allows us to continue to provide the services which have always been at the heart of our organisation.
Our new venue is smaller than the previous one but it has loads of character, four gallery/exhibition/shop spaces, along with two kitchens and a large outdoor area which we hope to see filled with gardens, restful spaces for coffee and chats, and lots of outdoor art. We continue to be a centre of community connection, a place where people meet for mentoring and sharing, a place for artists and artisans to develop their skills and sell their wares.
As we reopen, we welcome our community to participate in what will be a broader and even more inclusive NEA than ever before. NEA is a volunteer, not-for-profit organisation. Our work relies on the great ideas, good nature, volunteering and generosity of the community. I would like to thank all members of our Management Committee and all other volunteers who work so generously behind the scenes. Most importantly, I encourage you to contact us through our website with your ideas and any offers of volunteering support to take us into our new and exciting future. Not everyone is able to volunteer but your suggestions and comments are really valuable to us.
I look forward to seeing you at future NEA openings and events.

"Over the past two days, NEA volunteers Tanya, Michaela and Marshall have been sanding back the floorboards in one of the rooms at our new Carrier St location and boy oh boy what a difference it makes! Thank you to the team for what was a mammoth undertaking and we hope that your bones aren't too weary today
Getting there folks....

There are many more announcements to come and exciting things in store so watch this space ➡️🔲
We'd like to take this chance to thank Benalla Furniture Removals & Storage for donating their time, muscles and truck to help us with the move, Courtney from Ray White Benalla for her professionalism in organising our new lease, and of course all of our volunteers and members who helped us with the move. Thank you all for your patience, understanding and ongoing support as we've navigated this unprecedented time 😁
We’re excited to announce that we have found a new home for NEA at 28 B and C Carrier Street!
These are uncertain times as we handle coronavirus restrictions. We’re grateful to be able to fulfil our role as a vibrant part of the Benalla community.
The new premises will change the look and feel of NEA. We’re looking forward to opening and seeing how our new home operates to serve our members and the artistic community of Benalla and surrounds.
Do you have any practical and exciting ideas for how NEA operates? Everything we achieve is through the strength of our volunteers and members. We encourage you to take an active role in NEA. The future of NEA - a message from the management committee to NEA Artists, Artisans, Volunteers and Members
Dear Artists, Artisans, Volunteers and Members,
Recently we asked for your feedback about NEA’s next steps and whether we should stay at our current premises. Thank you for the well-considered responses we received.
The overwhelming majority of the feedback confirmed our previous decision to vacate the current premises. Taking this into consideration, the North East Artisans Management Committee has voted to depart the premises located at 122-124 Bridge Street East, Benalla.
We have not made this decision lightly but with the best intentions for the interests of our artists, artisans, members, volunteers and the wider communities that make up NEA.
It is with gratitude that we depart our Bridge Street location. It has served us well over many years. A working group is actively seeking a new home for our creative community.
The organisation known as North East Artisans (NEA) will continue!
While our location may change, our organisation continues to grow and thrive. We attribute this to the passion and commitment of our members. We are excited and optimistic about the next stage of NEA’s development, in a new place that will suit our changing needs.
We need our volunteers more than ever. We need leaders to guide us through this period of change. We need admin support, customer service skills, marketing and many hands that will shape our organisation moving forward. This is a time to create, strategise, plan and build an even brighter future. We look forward to seeing the contributions you can make.
We will continue to keep you updated with all forthcoming information.
Yours with a deep appreciation,
NEA Management Committee.
