It was after Susan and her husband retired from farming that her love affair with silk and dying blossomed.
“We were planning a trip to Europe and were going to visit the families of five young men who had stayed with us on the farm, as part of an exchange programme. As we intended to back pack I needed light, pretty gifts for their mothers, and it was then I made my first batch of silk scarves.”
Susan’s scarves were so well received she started making them as presents for friends.
“I really enjoy combining the colours, and with the dyes I use, I find the clarity and luminosity of the tones on silk is very satisfying.”
