NEA is, conceptually, one large exhibition space. The gallery team changes exhibits in the Gift Shop and Gallery 1 on a regular basis; the walls of Gallery 2 are always changing, whether for a particular exhibition or a changeover of artist's work. The Red Road Cafe, the hallways and the studios also feature informally changing exhibits of artists work. More formal exhibitions at NEA have included:
Two memorable exhibitions curated by Cornelia Selover in 2016 & 2017
'Rite of Spring' (attached to Benalla Festival in 2016)
'In Your Face' portrait exhibition (2017)
- both themes could be replicated, perhaps biennially
Exhibitions attached to community festivals or celebrations'
'Rite of Spring' (Benalla Festival 2016)
'Our Backyard' (Benalla Festival 2018)
'Wisdom & Experience' (Seniors Festival 2018)
Community inspired exhibitions -such as of artwork by Benalla Flexible Learning Centre students-AOK Exhibition (Sept 2017); 'A Kaleidoscope of Colour', (April 2018) and 'Creativity Unlocked' (November 2018). The Benalla Spinners & Weavers are another community group keen to book an exhibition at NEA in early 2020 (refer Annie Longmuir). .
An exhibition was held to celebrate the completion of the Door of Hope Project in April 2017..
'Featured artist' one work exhibits at NEA, usually in the Foyer window, or more recently in the tiny Foyer Gallery at the Benalla Rural City and in the Benalla Library. These have and need some curatorial input to work well. They provide a focus for web page home page graphics; social media posts, etc.
Exhibitions have been part of 'multi program' events at NEA - eg the Door of Hope exhib'n during Wall to Wall 17.
Looking to the future - Artists have expressed interest in applying to use the exhibition space at NEA for solo exhibitions (eg refer Reuben Frankland re Exodus exhib);. Artisans Frank Burgers and Tim Bowtell have expressed interest in NEA holding a Contemporary Art Prize, perhaps in 2019. Possibilities abound!
NEA's media team regularly celebrate exhibitions by NEA artists and artisans at other venues on the website, in the newsletter and on social media.
